That Matthew Good Album is amazing musically and lyrically. I highly recommend it. On his website there is the story of how the album came to be. Its pretty vulnerable stuff that he shares and it makes the album that much more engrossing (at least to me).

Great stuff that didnt make the cut includes albums by Bjork, Radiohead, Queens of the Stone Age, Monarch, Blonde Redhead, Andrew Bird, Bright Eyes, Low, Maserati, Twilight Sad.... Tons of good stuff this year.

I felt this needed to be on JoshWay.com. Has everyone heard Tarantula? The pumpkins are back!

From Billboard:

The Smashing Pumpkins have completed their first show since Dec. 2, 2000, held tonight (May 22) at Paris' 2,200-capacity Grand Rex. The three-hour, 29-song set introduced new guitarist Jeff Schroeder, bassist Ginger Reyes and keyboardist Lisa Harriton into the Pumpkins' lineup, which now includes lone original members Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlin.

The gig opened with the track "United States," from the band's impending comeback album, "Zeitgeist," due July 10 via Martha's Music/Reprise. A host of other new songs were played, including first single "Tarantula," "Doomsday Clock," "Starz" and "Orchid."

There was also a sizable chunk of vintage Pumpkins material, including "Today," "Hummer," "Cherub Rock," "Disarm" and "Silverfu*k." An acoustic set was sandwiched into the middle of the gig, featuring tracks like "33," "Winterlong" and "To Sheila."

The Pumpkins will take a few days off before hitting Holland's Pink Pop Festival next Monday and will be on the road through late summer. As previously reported, the group will also play residences this summer in Asheville, N.C., and San Francisco.

Just wanted everyone to know i got a chance to see Mike Ford play again last night. He was stellar as always. Had Murray backing him up on bass for a bunch of the set. There was a full 1/2 Fruvous on stage.

Speaking of half fruvouses, Murray and Dave are both playing in a band called "The Great Atomic Power". They are playing next month, i might go check it out.

Dave also plays in a band called "Betty and The Bobs", and Murray plays bass for Great Big Sea when they tour.

Jian is still doing stuff for the CBC as far as i know.

End Fruvous News....

My apologies for not having the time this year to write in depth about my favorite 10 cds of the year. Less time and much less access to computers forced me to change a bit. Here is (in my opinion) the best 30 cds of 2005.

I will say a few things.

Everyone should own a Sufjan Stevens album, and Illiniose is great. Cant say enough wonderful things about his music.

Magnolia Electric Co is amazing. Trails and Errors may be the best live cd released by any band. If you find a copy, grab it. It's already out of print.

It's great to have a new Luxury album.

Here is the list. If i am able, i might pop back in and explain why the top 10 discs are so great....

1. Sufjan Stevens - Illinoise
2. Magnolia Electric Co. - Trials and Errors
3. Luxury - Health and Sport
4. Sleater-Kinney - The Woods
5. Denison Witmer - Are You a Dreamer?
6. Gorillaz - Demon Days
7. Okkervil River - Black Sheep Boy
8. Andy Stochansky - 100
9. Magnolia Electric Co. - What Comes After The Blues
10. Depeche Mode - Playing The Angel
11. Over The Rhine - Drunkard's Prayer
12. Wilco - Kicking Television
13. Jimmy Eat World - Stay on My Side Tonight
14. The Choir - O How The Mighty Have Fallen
15. The Violet Burning - The Loudest Sound in My Heart
